Remember the OnePlus Open 2 that has been rumored to be launched sometime early in 2025 for the Chinese phone maker? As an improved version of the OnePlus Open, the Open 2 brings major improvements in the structural, functional, and enhanceable elements of the smartphone.
Appearance
Cutouts shown in these renders for the OnePlus Open 2 are still circular with the back cover housing three sensors in the upper part of the circle, accompanied by the Hasselblad writing below. Housing is extended to curved back sides, which gives the device a refined and more comfortable look than its flat predecessor. The new Open 2, for instance, is anticipated to be wider still while at the same time becoming slimmer than the previous fold, with a folded thickness of less than 10mm, perhaps one of the thinnest foldable phones on the market.
On the complexity front, abundant market expectation indicates that the Open 2 will come with an IPX8 water resistance rating, much higher than the IPX4 rating of the Open 1 making it more resistant to water penetration.
Storage and display
There are reports that it will have an 8-inch 2K LTPO AMOLED inner screen with 120Hz refresh rate together with an external 6.4 inches screen that also gives the best display for the users. It is expected to come with the latest snapdragon 8 elite under the hood and backed by up to 16 GB RAM and 1 TB of internal storage space as it has been seen that everyone likes a little extra productivity and power and having a lot of storage space to store whatever the user wants.
Camera settings
Camera aficionados will have to contend with a triple 50MP rear camera system that was co-developed with Hasselblad and should provide stunning photo quality. Front-facing camera details that are likely to be included will be 32MP and 20MP, optimal for selfies and video calls.
Battery
Battery dissipation is given a massive upgrade, with the Open 2 said to pack a 5,900mAh battery with support for 80W wired charging and for the first time on an Open, 50W wireless charging. That’s a step up from the original’s 4,800mAh battery and 67W wired charging, making for longer use and faster charging time.
We will have the first look of the OnePlus Open 2 in China by January to early February 2025, while it can be launched across the world in the first quarter of 2025. Indeed, as evidenced by their aerobically outfitted specifications and the design improvements, the Open 2 is in a strong position to provide serious competition for incumbent foldable smartphones and create an even stronger reason for customers to upgrade.
As the date nears, wait for an official word from OnePlus and get ready to witness a new generation of foldable smartphones.
