After India lost the Border – Gavaskar Trophy series 1-3 to Australia there have been significant conversations about the future of Rohit Sharma and especially Virat Kohli in Test cricket. Both players received a major boxing bashing, Sharma scored a meager 31 runs in the entire series while Kohli scored 190 runs at an average of 23.75.
DirecHead coach Gautam Gambhir had spetur radio regarding such conjectures that the pair is committed to Indian cricket. He said, “They still have hunger, they still have zeal, they are fighting individuals, and hopefully, they can sustain to build Indian cricket further.”
Much as earlier, the question marks about his retirement increased after Sharma skipped the final Test in Sydney. But he was quick to come clean and said, “I may have pulled out from this Test, but I am not going to disappear.” This is not retirement or moving away from the format; then came the registration statement.
India’s test squad is undergoing an expected rebuilding process as the side looks to the future and the upcoming five tests versus England in June. The management is therefore presented with key choices to the level of experience to bring in the youthful talent that will be important in future tournaments.
