Alongside the first innings record partnership of 295 for the fourth wicket between Azhar Ali and Younus Khan, Pakistan’s captain Shan Masood and its number one batsman Babar Azam put on a record 205-run opening stand against South Africa at Newlands in the second Test match.

This is also the record for the highest opening partnership establishing follow-on in Test cricket, breaking the previous record of 204 set by South Africa’s Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie against England in 2008.

By getting out on 81 Babar Azam once again proved that he is a good player contributing towards the team’s total but not Emerviceable enough to make a big difference Shan Masood was the star of the match he played well and became the first Pakistan captain to score a Test century in South Africa, he was unbeaten on 137.

Still, it has one brilliant chase, and Pakistan is still 109 runs behind, meaning the game could go to the wire.
