UIDAI has recently announced the appointment of Bhuvnesh Kumar for the post of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) from January 1, 2025. 

Professional Background

Bhuvnesh Kumar is an IAS officer of the 1995 batch of UP cadre as well as a post-graduate political science holder. He has a bachelor’s degree from Kurukshetra’s National Institute of Technology, & he graduated in the first position with a gold medal. In his career span, Kumar has been occupying some important posts both in central and state levels. Currently working at the Centre, he has held the position of Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). In Uttar Pradesh, it has been the Principal Secretary in the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy /Fisheries Development and the Secretary in Finance, MSME, and Technical Education Departments. 

Continuing Role in MeitY

Besides being appointed as UIDAI’s new CEO, Kumar will retain his MeitY designation of Additional Secretary. His overall experience in electronics and information technology is again believed to play a significant role in UIDAI more and more toward achieving its goal of issuing identification numbers to the residents of India.

The major objectives of UIDAI and Its Roles and Responsibilities in the Future

UIDAI is tasked with the responsibility of issuing what we refer to as Aadhaar numbers are numbers that identify Residents in India. Kumar, under his leadership, is focused on the improvement of the service delivery in the organization with safety being a vital top priority for the Aadhaar ecosystem. This appointment is expected to help UIDAI to enhance its endeavor to extend the coverage and effectiveness of Aadhaar in various governmental e-services plans.
